2026 Jewish Museum Summer
Institute
Dates: June 8 – August 7, 2026
Reports to: Department Supervisors
FLSA Status: Paid Internship ($18/hour)
Commitment: 35 hours per week (Full-Time)

Summer Institute Overview
This nine-week hybrid internship combines work experience in a department at the
Jewish Museum with topical group discussions and field trips. Learn about every
aspect of work at the Jewish Museum, discuss museums and other cultural
organizations with a focus on institutional reckoning and social change, and imagine
the future of museum work with a group of your peers. Meet with Jewish Museum
staff to hear about their vision for the Museum, and explore the work of producing
and promoting exhibitions and programs with curators, designers, educators, and
fundraisers. Special guests include artists, writers, exhibition designers, executive
directors, and other innovators in the art world. There will also be regularly
scheduled field trips to artist studios and other museums and cultural institutions.
While participating in the Institute, interns will work in a specific department while
also completing an independent project such as an artwork, essay, or exhibition
proposal related to their summer experience. During a typical program week, interns
spend approximately twenty hours on department work, ten hours on independent
projects, and five hours in group meetings and discussions.
Note: This internship requires four onsite workdays per week. The mandatory days
are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. The fourth onsite day will be selected by
the intern and their supervisor. Remote work will be an option on Mondays or
Fridays depending on the date selected. Each intern will have a dedicated
workspace at the Museum.
Additionally, please note that due to the Museum’s payroll parameters, applicants
must have a Social Security Number and be eligible to work in the United States.
Responsibilities:
* Participate in group discussions and field trips each week
* Complete department work and independent project
* Attend regular check-ins and meetings with supervisors
Requirements:
* Current or recently graduated college or university student (BA or MA level)
* Interest in museum work, art, and Jewish culture
* Ability to participate in a seminar-type discussions
* Availability to work onsite at the Jewish Museum
