In this hybrid, you will be expected to work a minimum of 10 days per month from our Madison, WI 53783 office.
You will report to a director, legal.

position Compensation Range:

$150,000.00 – $255,000.00

Compensation may vary based on the job level and your geographic work location. Relocation support is offered for eligible candidates.

Primary Accountabilities

  • You will select and manage outside counsel to assist with corporate litigation in class actions, employment, life and agent matters. You will review and edit briefs and motions prepared by outside counsel .
  • You will participate in and supervise exposure analysis and setting reserves.
  • You will participate in mediations and settlement conferences.
  • You will provide legal advice and participate in development of corporate and enterprise strategies.
  • You will manage case budgets and reviews outside counsel billing.
  • You will analyze legal questions, conduct legal research, and advise all corporation divisions and levels of management.
  • You will review and advise the corporation on proposed and current legislation and litigation trends.
  • You will review and advise the corporation on policy forms.
  • You will be a resource on high impact, bad faith and operational litigated claim files.
  • You will be the corporate litigation representative on the Regional Strategy Teams in reviewing summary judgment motions and appeals. You will review and edit briefs and motions.
  • You will supervise / manage the Corporate Discovery team.
  • You will supervise / manage the Agency E&O and EPL team on their matters.
  • You will update senior leadership on Corporate Litigation cases and general litigation trends

Specialized Knowledge & Skills Requirements

  • Demonstrated effective leadership skills.

  • Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service.

  • Demonstrated civil trial experience.

  • Demonstrated experience dealing with issues related to (i) tort law, (ii) litigation practice, and (iii) property and casualty insurance contracts, law and regulation.

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of rules of Professional Responsibility for the jurisdiction in which they practice.

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of tort, contract, and insurance law.

  • Admitted to the state bar in the state where they are located or (1) admission to the bar within one year of hire for individuals who must pass a bar exam or portions of a bar exam to be admitted or (2) bar admission as soon as practicable but no later than 60 days of hire for individuals with diploma privilege or who are eligible for in-house counsel registration.

  • Juris Doctor

Additional Knowledge and Skills

  • Complex litigation including, class actions, employment law, appeal strongly desired.
